38年、フィラデルフィア生まれ。母親の勧めで13歳の時にピアノを始め、やがて自宅で友達を集めてジャム・セッションを開くようになる。この時集まった仲間にリー・モーガン、ボビー・ティモンズ、アーチー・シェップ、レジー・ワークマンらがいた。また同じ頃、すぐ近所にバド・パウエルが引っ越してきて交流が始まり、初期のプレイに多大な影響を与えた。17歳の時、地元のクラブで、たまたまマイルスとの仕事の合間にフィラデルフィアを訪れていたジョン・コルトレーンと出会い、何度か共演をした後意気投合。60年、アート・ファーマーのバンドを経てコルトレーンのグループの一員となり、65年まで在籍。彼の元を離れてからしばらく低迷期を迎えたが、70年代に入り復活。80年からはビッグ・バンドにまで活動を広げ、80年代末からはピアノ・トリオを中心に活動。

Real McCoy, originally known as M.C. Sar & The Real McCoy, was a German Eurodance group, who are best known for their international hits Another Night in 1993 and Run Away in 1994.
Real McCoy was the brainchild of German rapper and producer Olaf "O-Jay" Jeglitza.
