COMPLEX（コンプレックス）は吉川晃司と元BOØWYのギタリスト・布袋寅泰の2人によって結成された音楽ユニット。 メンバー 吉川晃司（ボーカル・ギター） 布袋寅泰（ギター・コーラス） 結成 二人は、布袋の所属していたバンドであるBOØWYのアルバムに吉川が参加、また吉川のアルバムにギタリストとして布袋が参加するなど結成以前から交流があり、1988年12月10日にCOMPLEX結成を発表する。同年4月に人気絶頂の中で解散したBOØWYのギタリスト・布袋と絶大な人気を誇っていたアイドルロックシンガー・吉川という異色かつ大型ユニット結成の発表に、世間の注目が集まった。翌1989年4月にシングル「BE MY BABY」でデビューし、瞬く間にオリコンチャートを席巻する超人気ユニットとなる。ロックとポップ、デジタルを融合させたその音楽性は高い支持を得る。 活動休止 COMPLEXは高い人気を誇っていたが、結成からわずか2年後の1990年11月8日に行われた東京ドーム公演をもって無期限の活動休止状態となる。表向きは活動休止となっているが、事実上の解散である。COMPLEX結成以前から公私共に付き合いのあり友人関係だった二人だが、COMPLEX後期には関係が悪化していたことは本人達も認めており、活動休止の要因とされている。吉川曰く「離婚したような関係」。その後、2人の交流はほとんど無かったが、COMPLEX時代の曲を含む、布袋の音楽活動の集大成的なベストアルバムがリリースされ、吉川の口からも「布袋」に関する話題が出るようになったり、また布袋のライブに吉川から花が贈られることもあった。 21年ぶりの復活 2011年4月28日、吉川、布袋双方の公式サイトにおいて21年ぶりに一日限りの復活をすることが発表された。7月30日、東京ドームにおいて「日本一心」と銘打ったライブを行う。このライブは3月に発生した東日本大震災のチャリティーライブとして行われ、本公演の収益は同震災の復興、復旧に全額寄付される。なお、この日はFUNKY MONKEY BABYSの公演が中止となり、急遽決まったもの。 5月28日、当初は1日限りであったが7月31日（日）の追加公演が決定したことが発表された。 震災後、吉川が布袋に「いつかコンプレックスをやろうと話したこともあり、ならば（震災からの復興を目指している）今しかないだろう」と再結成を呼び掛けたところ、布袋もはじめは「気持ちの整理が付いていない」と返答を保留したが、程なくして「願いは一つ。心は一つ。答えは一つ。やろうぜ!」と再結成を承諾した。 .
