Dustin Payseur startete 2009 in Brooklyn, New York sein Solo-Projekt unter dem Namen Beach Fossils. Das Debut wurde von Payseur komplett in Eigenregie eingespielt und aufgenommen. Nachdem Beach Fossils bei Captured Tracks einen Vertrag erhielten, wurde aus dem Solo-Projekt eine Band. Diese umfasste während der darauf folgenden US-Tour 12 verschiedene Drummer und 3 Gitarristen. Im März 2011 tat sich Payseur mit Bassist John Peña zusammen, um die EP "What A Pleasure" aufzunehmen. Kurz nach der Veröffentlichung tourte die Band durch die USA und Teile Europas. Am 23.
