My Chemical Romance sind die Brüder Gerard Arthur Way (Vocals) und Michael James Way (Bass), Frank Anthony Iero (Gitarre), Raymond Manuel Toro-Ortiz (Gitarre) aus Newark, New Jersey, die sich nach ihrem Highschoolabschluss aus den Augen verloren haben, sich 2001 aber wiederfanden und eine Band gründeten. Der Name „My Chemical Romance“ stammt aus dem Roman Ecstasy von Irvine Welsh. Während sie auf dem Debütalbum I Brought You My Bullets You Brought Me Your Love noch eher dem Punk-Rock bzw. Post-Hardcore zuzuordnen waren, sind sie aktuell eher im Bereich des Alternative einzuordnen.

Bandgeschichte
1982 in Venice Beach in einer WG gegründet, spielt die Band zunächst lediglich auf Partys und in kleineren Clubs und Hallen. 1983 veröffentlichen sie ihr selbstbetiteltes Debütalbum auf dem Independent-Label Frontier und die Single "Institutionalized". Mit Join The Army gelingt ihnen 1987 der Sprung in die Top 100 Billboard-Charts und damit der Höhepunkt ihrer Karriere, der begleitet war von jahrelangen Auftrittsverboten in Californien und FBI-Überwachungen (aufgrund ihrer politischen Texte "z.B. In the post punk fallout of 1978, four spiky haired teenagers under the guidance of the dubiously debonair Roy Pierson, come together as the group 4th Reich and make their debut at The Marquee supporting the UK Subs. During 1979 they support the UK Subs on their Stranglehold tour, appear in the film 'Punk Can Take It' and change their name to Manufactured Romance.
