Blackstreet was an American R&B group founded in 1994 by Teddy Riley, a New Jack Swing pioneer known for his work as a member of Guy. The band members were: Teddy Riley, Chauncey Hannibal, Eric Williams, and Terrell Philips (and formerly Joe Stonestreet, Levi Little, David Hollister, and Mark Middleton). Their debut album, Blackstreet, was a moderate success due to the singles "Booti Call" and "Before I Let You Go", both Top 40 hits ("Before" hit the Top 10). The group: Blackstar was formed after the demise of Carcass, with their one album, Barbed Wire Soul, continuing in the vein of Carcass' Swansong (i.e. away from the grindcore of that band's early works). In some areas the album has been released under the band name Blackstar Rising, presumably for legal reasons and apparently without the knowledge of the band itself (versions of the album can be found under both names). Drummer Ken Owen fell victim to a brain hemorrhage during recordings for a second album, and with him unable to continue, the band folded. Owen has since been reported...

Thomas Mapfumo was born in 1945 in Marondera, Zimbabwe. He sang with various bands including The Zutu Brothers, Hallelujah Chicken Run Band and the Acid Band before forming The Blacks Unlimited when he and Jonah Sithole merged their bands in 1977. The band developed a style called chimurenga music, meaning "(revolutionary) struggle" - a highly politicised electrification of traditional Shona mbira music, with lyrics railing against the colonial government in Rhodesia and, later, against Mugabe. Mapfumo now lives in exile in the United States. .

There is two bands by the name The Blackstones. 1. A mid-60s Chicago-area beat combo. 2. Behind every indie rock band is a story... And I suppose, ours is similiar to others. The Blackstones were initially birthed out of the dusty remains of a band called “The Tremolo Cowboys”. Which was fronted by yours truly, (Aaron LaMere) and whose members included myself, Michael Salinas, Bobby Love, and Keith Young. Three of the closes friends I ever had in the world... At some point, as The Tremolo Cowboys we put out a cd... and it got a lot of great reviews...
