Summoning is an Austrian experimental atmospheric black metal band. Their style has been described as 'Tolkien metal' - not without reason, for the lyrics on most of the albums they have published yet deals with the mythological world of J. R. R. Tolkien. The notable exception being Stronghold. Summoning was formed somewhere in 1993 by Silenius (Michael Gregor), Protector (Richard Lederer) and Trifixion (Alexander Trondl). Before creating Summoning, Protector was playing drums in a kind of "old fashioned" thrash/death metal band Marlignom[1] and had embarked on a four year study of drums in music school. Summon is a black metal band formed in the spring of 1991 with the intent of creating extreme, brutal metal with influences like Bathory, Venom, Blasphemy, Beherit, Carcass, Morbid Angel, Celtic Frost, etc. By mid-1991, Summon began to perform live and managed to record a 4-track basement demo entitled Devourer of Souls (no longer available), but the band split up before it was released. It would not be until 1995, after failed attempts with other efforts, that Summon would be exhumed from its shallow grave. By the winter of 1995, Summon recorded their first true demo entitled Fire Turns Everything...Black....

Bestial Summoning was a quite early black metal band from The Netherlands with two demos and a full length. The band was formed in 1991 and had quite a following in the underground scene in the beginning of the 90's. The full-length is fully dedicated to former Mayhem singer Dead, who committed suicide in 1991. In 2002 a compilation of old material was released through War Hammer Records. On the 8th of August 2008, Conscicide committed suicide on his 35th birthday. .
