R.I.P. Mausberg (1979 - 2000), real name Johnny Burns, was a rapper from Compton, California who was discovered by hometown legend DJ Quik. He was known as an affiliate of the Campanella Park Blood gang, located in Compton. He appeared on some of Quik's earlier work, many remember him for his appearance on the single "Down, Down, Down" from the album Rhythm-al-ism in 1998. He teamed up with DJ Quik, Suga Free and many other West Coast artists to record a compilation called The Konnectid Project in 1999. Not to be confused with the UK's Mau Maus, The Mau Maus formed in Los Angeles in 1978 from the ashes ot The Berlin Brats, playing like all essential grassroots outfits of the early LA punk scene at Brendan Mullen's illegal basement club 'The Masque' in Hollywood. They have a very early, rock'n'roll based, protopunk, New York Dolls kind of sound and swagger. .
One of the UK`s first Hardcore Punk bands, the Mau Maus came from Sheffield and in the early 80`s they released a string of brilliant EP`s on the Pax and Rebellion labels. Including ''Society's Rejects'', ''No Concern'', ''Facts Of War'' and ''Tear Down The Walls'', all of which hit the UK Indie Top 10.
