2008 BBC Jazz Awards Band of the Year. Curios were formed in 2006 by award-winning pianist and composer Tom Cawley. A piano trio, they play Cawley's original compositions. Their sound is influenced by romantic classical music as much as by jazz, and relies on a deep empathy between the players. As well as Cawley, the other members of the band are Sam Burgess (double bass) and Joshua Blackmore (drums). Cabinet of Natural Curiosities is an experimental folk group that sprouted roots in the froggy ponds of New England. After roaming the alleys of Brooklyn and the mountains of Montana, the group's principal member, Jasmine Dreame Wagner, retreated to her home in the woods to record chilling lo-fi lullabies and haunted love songs with percussionist/slide guitarist Alex Wilson. The result is Cabinet's most recent album, "Blue Highways," recorded on Tascam 424 4-track and Tascam 488 8-track tape machines. .
Curiosity Killed the Cat was a British band who found success in the United Kingdom pop charts in the late 1980s and early 1990s. They played soulful, funky pop jazz and were initially signed to Phonogram Records' Mercury imprint. The first came to notice of the UK music and style press when they hooked up with photographer Andy Warhol for the video of the 1986 single Misfit.
