Affectionately known as 'La Pere du Rai (The Father Of Rai)', Messaoud Bellemou helped usher in a new era for Algerian dance music. Originally a trumpet player in a village band during the 1960s, Bellemou became known for incorporating western instruments - including saxophone, trumpet, violin, lute and accordion - into his music. His style is influenced by a number of genres, ranging from jazz and rock to flamenco and Latin music. .

Bellemou Messaoud is an Algerian musician, and perhaps the most influential performer of modern raï music. Known as The Father of Rai, Messaoud began his career playing the trumpet, but soon became known for adding foreign instruments like the saxophone, violin and accordion to rai. .

Inside Still Beats Ellem’s first full length album has all the hallmarks of immediately accessible, soul injected, modern-folk with unashamed glimmers of playful pop.
