Placebo, 1994'de Londra/İngiltere'de, Brian Molko ve Stefan Olsdal tarafından kurulmuş bir alternatif rock grubudur..
Grup, Brian Molko (vokal, gitar), Stefan Olsdal (Bass gitar,geri vokal)'dan oluşur. Geçtiğimiz aylarda grubun 10 yıllık bateristti Steve Hewitt gruptan ayrılmıştır
Çocukken aynı okulda okumuş olan Molko ve Olsdal, yıllar sonra Londra'daki Kensington Metrosu'nda karşılaşır ve uzun uzun sohbet ederler. O günün akşamında Molko'nun evinde müzik yapmaya karar vermeleri, Placebo için atılan ilk adım olmuştur. Olsdal, Molko'nun gitar çalışına ve vokal tarzına hayran kalır ve grup kurma fikirleri akıllarına yatar. Tek eksiklerinin iyi bir baterist olduğuna karar verirler.
