Sarah MacDougall was born and raised in Sweden, but relocated to Vancouver for its vibrant roots-music scene in 2001. With a Canadian father and Swedish mother, Sarah was exposed to both North American and European
culture growing up, and it shows in her music.

Sarah has been writing and recording songs since she was thirteen. Now also a music producer and audio engineer, she records and produces all her own music. As a fiercly passionate, vibrant and creative songwriter, Sarah is influenced by a wide array of songwriters such as Leonard Cohen, Daniel Lanois, Stevie Nicks, Lucinda Williams, and Fred Eaglesmith, as well as
traditional and contemporary songwriters from her native Sweden, including Lars Winnerbäck, Ulf Lundell, Cornelis Wreejswijk, and Bellman. Whether performing intricately textured pieces or simple arrangements, she aims to capture emotion and make her music come alive.

Sarah has quickly gained a reputation as one of the best emerging songwriters and performers in Vancouver. At her live shows, people are captivated by her voice, stage presence and spontaneity. Sarah was recently added to the roster of artists on Copperspine records, on which label her next album “Across the Atlantic” will be released in
2008.

Performance-wise, Sarah has been blessed to have open for Po' Girl, Agnostic Mountain Gospel Choir, Black Mountain, Todd Snider, among others. In 2007 she was asked to perform at Under the Volcano Festival, Commercial
Drive Festival, and New Music West. Sarah has toured solo through eastern Canada and USA in the fall of 2007, and is touring cross-canada and Europe in the spring/summer/fall of 2008.
