Kalimba Marichal Ibar (born July 26, 1982 in Mexico City, Mexico) is a Mexican singer, born in Mexico City, D.F., Mexico. Kalimba is of Afro-Mexican descent, as is his name — "Kalimba" is a musical instrument of African origin composed of a wooden box set with metal bars to be plucked with the fingers. Kalle Kalima, born 1973, Finland, is a Guitarist and composer. His own groups, the Kalima Trio (Lasse Lindgren on bass, Mika Kallio on drums, Kalima on guitar) and Nuijamiehet (as before, but with the addition of saxophonist Mikko Innanen) both came up with a fascinating album in 2000. While these discs are 100% noteworthy in their own right, aficionados of New European Guitar will be delighted to learn that the featured guest on the Kalima Trio album is French string guerrilla Marc Ducret. .

Formed in 1980, Factory Records avant-funk band Swamp Children initially shared members with A Certain Ratio before mutating into acclaimed latin jazz contenders Kalima, releasing four albums between 1986 and 2002. Their music is a mixture of torch songs, latin jazz and bossa nova with Ann Quigley's vocals added. Their back catalog has been re-issued on LTM Records. Drummer Dave Higgins went on to record as Stick Manoeuvres for Here And Now Recordings. .
