Witt started his music career in 1977, and became a major star of the German pop scene during the 1980s with huge hits such as "Tri Tra Trullala (Herbergsvater)" and "Goldener Reiter". She is the fifth of seven children by Auschwitz survivor Otto Rosenberg, who was part Roma, and recorded her first song, Mr. Paul McCartney, after winning a talent contest at age fourteen. Her major hits include Fremder Mann, Er gehört zu mir (also recorded in English as How Can I Go Now?), Lieder der Nacht and Marleen, all of which were very successful in West Germany in the early and mid-1970s.
