iordache was born in 1967 in Bucharest, Romania, as Mihai Iordache, and began playing saxophone in 1990, under the influence of Charlie Parker, Lee Konitz and Ornette Coleman, whom he tried to imitate. Around 2001 after an event which changed some of his ideas about life he started writing his own music. Toni Iordache (1942-1987) was one of the most famous cimbalom players. He began learning the instrument from his father when he was four. Later he toured many countries in Europe and throughout the world as a member of the 'Ciocârlia' folk music ensemble (Ciocârlia means lark in Romanian and is also the name of a famous virtuoso piece where the violinist imitates the call of the lark and other birds).
