There are at least three bands with this name: 1) Inkling is a now-defunct band whose members have moved on towards projects such as The Minor Times, The End of Me Party, Ghost Away, Ladder Devils, and Person L. They hailed from the suburbs of Philadelphia. They had 3 major releases. Their 8-song cassette demo came out in 1998, Minute EP in 2000, and Miscommunication EP in 2001. 2) A New-Zealand post-rock band. 3) A Finland-based experimental electronic artist. .

THE iNKLING is made up of Osaka (guitar and sometimes vocals), Luke (Korg and keys), Stefan (bass) and Phil (Drums and percussion). They've been jamming together since 2001, the culmination of which is the debut album they laid down at "The Surgery" with production maestro Dr Lee Prebble. Their music shifts between moments where each instrument holds equal primacy in complex looping movements to, tiered back, in-step grooves where one instrument ascends a melody to navigate the crests of tension and resolution unfolding below. The Williamsburg, Brooklyn, indie rock quartet The Inklings began in the winter of 2004 as the band behind the music of Dani Linnetz, who had already achieved a degree of notoriety as a nationally touring singer/songwriter. Guitarist Peter Imbres, a member of the Williamsburg-based avant folk band Royal Nonesuch and leader of The No Name All-Stars recording project, and bassist Eli Schneider, formerly of Zealrecords' Timesbold and also in Royal Nonesuch, had previously collaborated with Linnetz on her first full band recording, Caller Seventeen (Sly Dog Records, 2004), and Imbres had toured with her briefly on lead guitar.
