I was born in Istanbul in 1961 and I am currently living in Zurich. Due to the political pressure of the Chinese government upon the Turk people in East Turkestan (Uyghur Autonomous Region), my parents fled to Istanbul, where they settled as Kazakh refugees. They transmitted us the rich oral and musical traditions of the highlands of Central Asia.With the tales of their far away country and their journey to Turkey, the elderly people of the Kasakh community influenced my imagination as musician until nowadays. Roberto Durkovic was born in Italy but there‘s a part of Czech blood in him and this explains the strong middle European influence that distinguishes his music. More than 10 years ago he met some talented gypsy musicians that were playing in the underground of Milan, fascinated by the intensity of their music he started an artistic cooperation that has brought him and his group in many theatres gathering appraisals for this unusual kind of music. Late 90s, early 00s Thrash/Punk band from Boston UK, named after the Planet of the Apes character, General Urko. They released a split LP with Minute Manifesto, and several 7"s. They played with Doom, Detestation, etc. Bassist Jas sadly died in a car accident in 2001 and the band split afterwards. .
