Zulutronic is only one of a dizzying abundant cachet of names used by Cologne-based producer/Pharma label boss Cem Oral, who has also released records as G104, Jammin' Unit, and, together with longtime partner Walker, Air Liquide. Zulutronic is a collaborative project between Oral and fellow Cologne-based producer Roger Cobernuss, aka Kerosene; both share credentials as part of the influential Structure label group, an important component in the experimental wing of Germany's early-'90s dance music underground. The Zulus were formed in 1983 (or thereabouts) in Boston, Massachusetts in the wake of the demise of Human Sexual Response. Former HSR members Larry Bangor (vocals), Rich Gilbert (guitar), and Malcolm Travis (drums) formed the core of the band, which included former HSR bassist Chris Maclachlan initially, to be replaced by Rich Cortese. In 1988 they released their debut album on Slash Records, Down on the Floor, produced by Bob Mould. The band broke up in 1992.
