Heartsdales were a self-producing J-Urban group, composed of two sisters Yumi Sugiyama (杉山ユミ) and Emi Sugiyama (杉山エミ), known by their stage names Rum and Jewels, respectively. The name Heartsdales comes from the area of Hartsdale, New York, where the sisters lived and grew up in. They are fluent in English, as well as Japanese. The group debuted in 2001, with the single So Tell Me (which remained their biggest hit throughout their career). Pauline Pantsdown is an Australian satirist, best known for parodying Pauline Hanson, a controversial right-wing former member of Australian federal parliament. The song "Backdoor Man", a sampled collage of Hanson's voice laid over a disco backing track, was a huge hit on the youth radio network Triple J after its release in 1997, being played almost hourly due to a massive number of requests, and later making it into the 1997 Triple J Hottest 100 list at number 5. Pop trio formed in 1995, Claire, Cossie and Bonnie were hoping to be the next big thing in an industry saturated with boybands. They chose the groups name by picking random letters while playing a game of scrabble. After releasing two singles in 1996, Heart and Soul which reached number 69 in the UK singles chart and Baby I Love You which peaked at 64, the group were dropped from their record label.
