Vermont is a U.S. state, located in the northeastern part of the country. It is primarily known for its fiercely independent (although typically leaning liberal/libertarian) political views, maple syrup, and Ben & Jerry's ice cream. Also, it's, like, 99% white. From a musical standpoint, Vermont's best-known export is the influential jam band Phish. Other bands with ties to the state include the now-defunct reggae-lite band Dispatch, who formed at Middlebury College, and more recently, the blue-eyed soul group Grace Potter and the Nocturnals. Vermont's largest city, Burlington, has a vibrant music scene, encapsulating not only the jam bands that the state is known for, but also indie rock (The Cush), lo-fi punk rock (Cccome?), and hip-hop (The Aztext). At one point, southern Vermont produced some fairly well known folk punk bands such as Wingnut Dishwashers Union. .
