The blessed year 2000, Kristof Janssens and Gert Herrijgers have put up an old drum kit, a shook-up bass-amp and a four-stringed guitar. They are goofing off and playing around with old surf riffs and rhythms. When their good friend Koen Van Loon passes by, the three decide to start a surf combo. The fact that Van Loon doesn’t play any instrument whatsoever doesn’t interfere with their decision.

Come a year, Janssens has put up a "real" band with a name and a space to rehearse in. "The Moe Greene Specials" (film buffs know why) come together in the old cinema Rex. The atmosphere and old images of a long gone glory in film is all around them. Van Loon has learned to handle the trumpet by now and the band works hard on material, but musicians come and go. It’s only when guitarist Peter Lodiers joins the band that everything musically comes together. He writes most of the songs and Mr. Herrijgers makes the switch from drums to bass.

At the end of 2001, an early version of The Moe Greene Specials record their first mini-CD; "God Bless The Moe Greene Specials". A first series of gigs follow and the song “Sacramento” from the mini-CD wins a demo-competition on national radio Studio Brussels.

A few years pass by and more horn blowers, trumpet players and drummers come and go. It’s 2004 when The Moe Greene Specials present themselves in a definite line-up: Kristof Janssens (Guitar), Peter Lodiers (Lead Guitar), Gert Herrijgers (Bass), Koen Van Loon (Trumpet), Bart Hedebouw (Trumpet and Percussion) and Tom Raeymaekers (Drums)

More gigs came around, The Moe Greene Specials even had the honor to take care of the music during the European Tour of Russ Meyer Star Kitten Natividad on the "Russ Meyer Pussy Galore" tour. Their mix of Easy tunes, surf, Stax Soul and Americana made it into Germany and Switzerland.

2005, TMGS record their self-titled debut album, released on Green Cookie records. it gets very positive reviews, and is defined as a topnotch ride in modern spaghetti western music.

In 2006, Bart Raats, a 2nd trumpet player, joins the band. Immediately, he takes TMGS to another musical level. TMGS start working on new songs and decide to add vocals to the music.

In October 2006, "Maplewood Drive", a TMGS song, is being used as the trailer song for "The Bride Wore Blood", a contemporary western by Scott Beck and BlueBox Limited. Later on, Scott Beck also created a videoclip for the TMGS song, using shots from the movie.

2007, TMGS release open road (again) on Sonic Rendezvous records.

The Moe Greene Specials are building their future, but they also keep looking to the past.
