Bob Davenport is a Geordie from Tyneside, though he has lived in Camden for most of his life. His quiet speaking voice belies his big-voiced singing style, which can be melodic or a cross between shouting and singing. His songs are often political - he is not a great fan of the ruling classes. He also sings a range of traditional songs, telling little stories in between, and he does hilarious monologues.
He has been performing in folk clubs for more than 40 years - in 1963 he apppeared alongside with Bob Dylan, Joan Baez & Tom Paxton at the Newport Jazz Festival.
He used to play with a band called The Rakes, and then the Flowers and Frolics, who for many years were the house band at the Islington Folk Club in its various venues around the borough. .
