Edgy music, when used in the modern pop cultural sense, is music that is generally popular among angst-ridden teenagers who want to appear hardcore and cool. Edgy music is often mistaken for avant-garde music, which is music that is thought to be unique and original. Genres of music that are usually considered "edgy" are rap metal, rapcore, nu metal, emo, screamo, post-grunge, metalcore, post-hardcore and pop punk.
