Valerie is an online music blog and collective of French artists, including but not limited to Maethelvin, College, Minitel Rose, and Anoraak. Their sound and aesthetic--and album artwork--is mainly reliant on, and highly evocative of, the 1980s, similar to so-called "dreamwave" music: syncopated synths, bass (frequently bass guitar), and electro-inspired rhythms are recurring elements. Some artists, like Minitel Rose and Anoraak, have vocalists, while College is entirely instrumental. "Valerie" on last.fm can also refer to artists with a similar sound, outside the collective--like SymbolOne from Scotland, or Electric Youth from the United States--frequently overlapping with dreamwave. .
