György Kurtág was born on 19th February 1926 at Lugoj in Romania, not far from the birthplace of fellow Hungarian György Ligeti. Both young composers hoped to study with Béla Bartók in Budapest in 1945, but Bartók died in America and Kurtág went on to study piano, composition and chamber music with other teachers at the Budapest Academy. Among his early works was a Korean Cantata which expressed solidarity with the North Koreans in the Korean War against the US, but he reached the age of thirty-three before he was willing to give any of his works opus numbers. Eerily enticing, deliciously dissonant and forever haunting, the sound of Ghost Orgy magnificently defies the boundaries of modern rock music. With loquacious lullabies protruding as from a concupiscent nightmare, the Filipina fronted incarnation takes tonal math and sonic brutality to an emotionally disturbing level. Powerful presences ostracizing known spectrums, the set of deviant isolationist spirits found through the arduous undertakings of creator/guitarist Meric Sarkhov contrive their stylistic differences as they gelled into their sardonic new form. The beautifully intense and diverse voice of Dina Concina pummels the vocal registry with malicious melodies, her volcanic demeanor unraveling the deepest sorrows and...
Forged in 2008, in the molten bowels of the very birthplace of Metal, Birmingham's Morgue Orgy are the UK metal scene's last hope for melodic death metal. Combining lush diatonic harmony and the thrashy bite of Carcass with the modern sensibilities and razor sharp riffage of The Black Dahlia Murder, and the ability to move from grandiose neoclassical keyboard solos to furious grindesque two minute blasts, Morgue Orgy's formidable live show garnered them a coveted slot at Bloodstock Open Air in 2010, and they've shared the stage with the likes of Anaal Nathrakh, Evile and the Rotted, to name but...
György Sándor Ligeti; (May 28, 1923 – June 12, 2006) was a Jewish Hungarian composer born in Romania who later became an Austrian citizen. Ligeti received his initial musical training in the conservatory at Kolozsvár (Cluj, Transylvania, Romania). His education was interrupted in 1944 when, as a Jew, he was forced to labor by the Nazis. At the same time his parents, brother, and other relatives were deported to the Auschwitz concentration camp, his mother being the only survivor. Following the war, Ligeti returned to his studies in Budapest, graduating in 1949. He studied under Pál Kadosa, Ferenc Farkas, Zoltán...
