Mr. Scruff is the recording name of Andy Carthy (born in 10 February 1972 in Macclesfield, Cheshire, England), a British DJ and artist. He lives in Stockport, Greater Manchester, and studied fine art at the Psalter Lane campus of Sheffield Hallam University. Before he could make a living from his music alone, he worked as a shelf-stacker in the Burton Road branch of Quack Save. There is more than one artist using this name: 1. The Scruffs were Memphis' other great power pop group, lead by singer/guitarist Stephen Burns. Their debut album Wanna Meet The Scruffs? was released in 1977. A second album, Teenage Gurls, was not released until some twenty years later though it had been recorded in the late seventies. A Boston MA based band in the early to late 80's who achieved a modicum of success on the college rock circuit in their day with an alt-country americana style sound. Fronted by Charlie Chesterman, their first vinyl appearance was on a 1984 Throbbing Lobster record label compilation, followed by a few singles, comp appearances, EPs and their two full-length LPs released on the Relativity label.
