The Darkest of the Hillside Thickets are a rock band from Chilliwack, British Columbia, Canada. Their music largely consists of often tongue-in-cheek homages to the works of H. P. Lovecraft, specifically the Cthulhu Mythos. History The band's name is drawn from a phrase in Lovecraft's story The Tomb: "I will tell only of the lone tomb in the darkest of the hillside thickets." The band formed in January 1992 after meeting at Fraser Valley College in Abbotsford, British Columbia. Afterwards they formed a local role-playing group. The Hillsiders were a British country music group. Formed in 1964 in Liverpool, over the three decades they worked with many of stars of country music such as Marty Robbins, Jerry Lee Lewis, Gene Watson and Glen Campbell. In 1967 recorded the album "The English Countryside" with Bobby Bare. They also recorded an album with George Hamilton IV in 1971. The Hillsiders were invited onto the Grand Ole Opry in 1967.
