John Philip Sousa (November 6, 1854 – March 6, 1932), popularly known as "The March King", was an American composer and conductor of Portuguese heritage, from the late Romantic era, known particularly for American marches. .
Band led by John Phillip Sousa starting in the 1890's. They had a number of successful early recordings. Sousa's Band was rather famous at the time. Some considered it the world's most famous band before Benny Goodman. After leaving the military, Sousa formed the band. They toured from approximately 1892-1935, and specialized in patriotic marches. .
