Vegan Reich, formed in 1987, was one of the more controversial bands to emerge from the hardcore punk and metalcore scenes. They were responsible for kickstarting the subcultural and political movement known as Hardline. Its main ideological tenents were based around animal liberation, deep ecology, opposition to drugs, abortion, racism, promiscous sex and capitalism, coupled with a militant rethoric. The band would eventually gravitate towards a radical interpretation of Islam, reinterpreting their old Hardline beliefs according to it.
