Detachment Kit, hailing from Brooklyn, New York, was born of the bandmembers' desire to express their musical disassociation with everything around them. While they embrace and support the current independent sonic palette, they see themselves as an inherently conceptual band that is separate from the readymade confines of scenes, labels and genre-specific musical movements. Formed in Cedar Rapids, IA, in 1996 by members Russell Binder (drums), Les Ohlhauser (guitar/vocals), Jarl Pierson (guitar), and Wade Wilson (bass). This line-up recorded one demo, "Permutation", at Schoolhouse studios in Cedar Rapids. Shortly after, they were joined by Michael Titman (keyboards). Hard rocking new wave band formed around the Armstrong brothers in Linden, Johannesburg in 1980 that played a subversive, fanatically independent, high pressure brand of rock that they themselves referred to as "Stormtrooper Pop".
