Hailing from Grand Rapids, Michigan, the group is named for their shared surname, and included the brothers Mark, James, Randy, and Eldra (or "El"), and their sister Bunny. Younger siblings Chico, Darryl, and Carol DeBarge were also singers (though not with the group), with Chico later becoming a solo star in his own right. Born in Pasadena, California, DeBarge is the daughter of James DeBarge, the youngest member of the music family DeBarge. She first appeared on national television in 2003 as a contestant on the American Idol spin-off, American Juniors. In 2009, DeBarge signed a contract with the Island Records department Sodapop, releasing her debut album Exposed in July the same year. Bunny is best-known for her duet with her brother El DeBarge on "Share My World" and for writing and singing lead on the group's popular album track, "A Dream" from the group's In A Special Way album and for co-writing hits "I Like It", "Time Will Reveal" and "Stay With Me".
