Dan Wayland Seals (born February 8, 1948 in McCamey, Texas - died March 25, 2009) was an American musician. From a very music oriented family, his older brother Jim Seals sang with a 1950s musical group called The Champs who had a 1958 hit single with the song "Tequila", and who then teamed up with Dash Crofts in the mid-1960's to perform as Seals & Crofts. Dan's other brother is country musician Eddie Seals. He is a cousin of singers Johnny Duncan, Troy Seals, Chuck Seals and Brady Seals (of Little Texas and Hot Apple Pie fame). Taught by his...
Army Navy was born in the bedroom of Justin Kennedy, who in his early days played with Ben Gibbard (Death Cab for Cutie) in the [placformed]Seattle band Pinwheel. Having relocated to Los Angeles after Pinwheel broke up, Kennedy began focusing on his new project and started assembling members for Army Navy. Multi-instrumentalist Louie Schultz joined swiftly after hearing Kennedy’s home demos. Without a permanent sticks man at the time of recording the first album, Army Navy’s album boasted drumming by the legendary Pete Thomas of Elvis Costello and The Attractions, who had been a longtime fan of the band. Army...
Frank "Son" Seals (August 13, 1942-December 20, 2004) was an American blues guitarist and singer. He was born in 1942 in Osceola, Arkansas where his father, Jim "Son" Seals, owned a small club. He began performing professionally by the age of 13, first as a drummer and later as a guitarist. In 1959, he formed his own band which performed locally and he also toured with Albert King.[1] In 1971, he moved to Chicago. His career took off after he was discovered by Bruce Iglauer of Alligator Records at the Flamingo Club in Chicago's South Side. His debut, Son Seals,...
"...featuring ex-members of Boysnightout and Millenium Fair, Navy fuses anthemic leads with walls of overdriven power chords a la mid 90s rockers Knapsack while retaining the sensitivity of early Jimmy Eat World. This is a rock and roll record for pop fans. A slick recording leads to the illusion of these fine young lads already being rockstars, while the metaphorically charged lyrics show their true colours of heartbreak and romantic deception (wow). This post-emo-shit is great for any listener looking for a relative alternative to artists such as: Jimmy Eat World, The Jealous Sound, Knapsack, Foo Fighters, Boysnightout & Paulson."...
