Five months in an isolated cabin can be dangerous. Too much time on your hands can be hazardous for the mental health, and after the first month we were all courting madness, behaving quite erratically. Thankfully, we were equipped with weapons to stave of the slow approach of insanity. There were cellos, saxophones, guitars, moog synthesizers, bizarre eastern instruments, turntables, xylophones, mandolins, dulcimers, violins, keyboards, hand drums, microphones and all sorts of other musical devices of mayhem; a veritable arsenal of sonic destruction. The Laughing Hyenas were a rock quartet formed in Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA in 1985. Formed from the ashes of vocalist John Brannon's band Negative Approach and guitarist Larissa Strickland's band L-Seven (not L7), the band had the rawness of hardcore punk combined with the emotion and grittiness of the blues. They played with Kevin Strickland and Jim Kimball for seven years, until the latter two members departed to form Mule with PW Long.
