Samba came of age in Rio de Janeiro during the early 20th century, nurtured in the city's 'samba schools'. Velha Guarda Da Portela are a group of veteran musicians from one such institution, whose traditions have long been transmitted orally. Guardarraya aparece en la escena artística en el año 2000, inicialmente la banda estaba compuesta por: Álvaro Bermeo, Mateo Crespo, Andrés Caicedo y Andrés Pacheco. Luego de un año, la agrupación logra editar su primer disco “Guardarraya” y con él, las tocadas en bares y eventos culturales de la ciudad se hacen más frecuentes y demandadas.
