Alfredo Gobbi (May 14, 1912 - May 21, 1965) was a violinist, composer and orchestra leader, born in Paris of Uruguayan parents. He made his professional debut at age 13. During the 1930's he played with Anibal Troilo, Osvaldo Pugliese, and Pedro Laurenz, among others. In 1942 he formed his own orchestra. Among his admirers, one of the most fervent was Astor Piazzolla, who referred to him frequently. Gobbi was known as "the romantic violin of tango". .
