Sprechgesang describes a vocal technique between speech and song, often closer to one than the other. Notable examples of sprechgesang include operatic recitatives and some Romantic era Leider. More recently, Dire Straits frontman Mark Knopfler used sprechgesang prolifically in that same band's work, most clearly exploited in "Money for Nothing". .
