Hailing from Chapel Hill, North Carolina, The White Octave formed when Steven Pederson, (formerly of Slowdown Virginia and Cursive, currently of Criteria) moved away from Omaha to study law at Duke University in 1998. The White Octave consists of Stephen Pederson (guitar/vox), Linc Hancock (bass/vox), Finn Cohen (guitar), and Rob Biggers (drums). The band put together 13 songs for their debut release, Style No. 6312, on Deep Elm Records in 2000. Octave Minds is a self-termed "new age electronic romance" duo that consists of pianist/composer Gonzales (aka Chilly Gonzales, born Jason Beck) and producer Alexander Ridha (aka Boys Noize). Before they conceived the project, Ridha remixed Gonzales' "Working Together" (2008), and Gonzales released "I Am Europe" (2010) on Ridha's Boysnoize label. In 2014, over the course of two months, the musicians recorded an album together as Octave Minds.
