Blue Murder to były brytyjski zespół heavy metalowy, założony przez ex-gitarzystę Thin Lizzy i Whitesnake, Johnny'ego Sykesa w 1988 r. Po tym jak Sykes stał się częścią sukcesu multi-platynowej płyty Whitesnake z 1987 r., wytwórnia Geffen zaproponowała gitarzyście nową umowę, po tym, jak ten opuścił szeregi zespołu.
W scenicznych początkach zespołu uczestniczył perkusista Cozy Powell (z którym Sykes grał jeszcze w Whitesnake), który został później włączony do projektu. Zimą, 2008 r. pragnienie siedemnastoletniego Jewgienija Czebotarenki, by napisać utwór było tak silne, że już w ciągu miesiąca powstały pierwsze trzy piosenki: Angel in Coma, The Rest of Me oraz Soulmelt pt.1.
