Niemiecki zespół Blutengel powstał w roku 1998, gdy jego przyszły lider - Chris Pohl zdecydował się zakończyć pracę nad projektem "Seelenkrank". Pierwszy album kapeli, "Child of Glass" (1999 rok) bardzo szybko podbił serca niemieckiej publiczności. Przyczyniły się do tego utwory "Weg Zu Mir" oraz "Beauty of Suffering". W tamtym okresie udzielały się także Kati Roloff i Nina Bendigkeit. Zaraz po sukcesach "Child of Glass" Nina odeszła z zespołu. Zastąpiła ją Gini Martin, której głos mogliśmy już słyszeć obok Kati R. na płycie "Seelenschmerz". W roku 2001, grupa - po raz pierwszy - stanęła przed 10 000 audytorium podczas festiwalu Wave-Gotik-Treffen....
