Yoko Ono urodziła się 18 lutego 1933 r. w Tokio. Jej matka Isoko była wnuczką słynnego biznesmena Yasudy Zenjiro, twórcy fortuny handlowej i finansowej, założyciela banku Yasudy. W 1921 r. Yasuda został zamordowany przez przedstawiciela prawicowego ugrupowania ultranacjonalistycznego, a dyrektorem banku został ojciec Isoko - Zenzaburo. Dziadek Yoko szybko zrezygnował z prowadzenia banku. Wolał kolekcjonować sztukę i korzystać z życia.
