The Blades were a power pop group which formed in 1977 in Dublin, Ireland. The band's best known lineup was Paul Cleary (vocals, bass), Lar Cleary (guitar) and Pat Larkin (drums). This lineup split in 1981, but Paul Cleary reformed the band in 1982. This lineup featured Paul Cleary (vocals, guitar), Brian Foley (bass), Jake Reilly (drums) and a brass section. The Gaye Blades began as a side project of The Black Lips' bassist Jared Swilley and The Lids' singer/guitarist Bobby Ubangi. Their first few years of existence saw multiple line-up changes and very few shows. Upon the release of their first 7", 'I'd Brave Anything for You' (Rob's House / Die Slaughterhaus), the band settled on a final lineup and began playing shows more frequently.
