The Wailin Jennys | nl

There are two artists sharing the same name: 1) In El Paso in the late 60's and the early 70's there was a small group of musicians that refused to bow to the calling of the top- forty radio. These bands worked obscure venues with a core of avid fans that followed them everywhere. One of these bands was Wailing Wall. This unlikely foursome consisted of Doug and Darrell Adams, Mike Cancellari and David Rutledge. Doug Adams was the lead singer and rhythm guitar player and was one of the two poets in the band. He had a rough raw...
In the early days of the Wailing Souls, the first name that the group came up with in the late 60's was the Renegades. This group consisted of Winston 'Pipe' Matthews on lead vocals, Lloyd 'Bread' McDonald, and George 'Buddy' Haye. This line-up recorded backing vocals for an Ernest Ranglin album before breaking up in 1968. 'Pipe' and 'Bread' teamed up with two other singers after that, Oswald Downes and Norman Davis, and recorded the single "Gold Digger" for producer, Lloyd "Matador" Daley. From there they went on to work with Coxsone Dodd's famous Studio One label recording label, considered...

The Wailin' Jennys is a Canadian folk music trio originating in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Their name is a pun on country singer Waylon Jennings. Since forming in 2002 when a local music shop brought together three solo acts for a performance, the trio has released a series of albums, two of which have won Juno Awards, Canada's top music industry award. Their album "40 Days" won the "Roots and Traditional Album of the Year by a Group" in 2005, as did their album "Bright Morning Stars" in 2012. They were also nominated for the same award in 2007 for "Firecracker". Over...
Originally formed in the unrelenting heat of Corpus Christi, Texas, Wailin Storms migrated east and ended up in Durham, North Carolina. Producing a mix of doom-punk and swampy rock with elements of their prior and current surroundings culminate into a unique and volatile brew, overridden with ominous vocal elements reminiscent of bluesy masters like Howlin' Wolf and Samhain, and musically carved from the Southern American East Coast with emotive nods to Destruction Unit, Clockcleaner, Unsane, and Pussy Galore. The band’s output is incessantly passionate and harrowing in its entirety; the songs, dark and gritty, with incisive guitar slicing through heavy,...
