Groovy Aardvark was a Canadian rock band noted for its longevity (19 years) in the Quebec music scene. In 1986, the band Schizophrenic Muff Divers was formed by four high school students from Longueuil, Quebec. A year later the band changed its name to Groovy Aardvark in order to facilitate its plans of becoming a serious rock band. Aardvark was a British band active in the 1970s, playing progressive rock, unusual in doing without a guitarist. They gained some fame from the fact that Paul Kossof and Simon Kirke played in the band before leaving to form Free; following the pair's departure, Aardvark became mainly a recording band, though they only released one album, with the lineup: Stan Aldous (bass), Frank Clark (drums), Steve Milliner (keyboards, recorder, vibraphone), and Dave Skillin (vocals). Their material centred on keyboards, most notably a fuzzed-up Hammond organ. .
According to the Searchin' For Shakes database there are four garage groups called The Aardvarks. 1) One of the three US groups of this name were from Muskegon and released a few singles in the 60's. Probably their most well-known is the blazing garage-psych tune "I'm Higher Than I'm Down", included on many comps (most notably Pebbles Vol 11). 2) In the mid-80's, a London group called The Aardvarks formed.
