One and only album by German underground band Vinegar originally released in 1971. Musically in style of early Pink Floyd, progressive but very psychedelic, long instrumental tracks but also with female vocalist reminding of Nico. One of the lost treasures from Germany and very sought after! Recorded on January 9th, 1971 in Studio Rottenburg, Vinegar’s self-titled album was released on LP in a limited edition of 1,000 copies! I’ve read opinions from folks describing Vinegar’s sound as rather Floydian. While this is true, it should be noted that the group sounds much more like a cross between Amon Duul II...
Vinegar Joe were a British R&B band in the early 1970s, who were best know for live shows. The core members were lead singers Elkie Brooks and Robert Palmer, Elkie was known as the "Wild Woman of Rock", comparisons were made with Tina Turner and Janis Joplin. Bassist Steve York, keyboard player Tim Hinkley and guitarist Pete Gage who also played piano. Conrad Isidore played drums on their first album "Vinegar Joe". They released three albums on different record labels before the band dissolved at the end of 1973. Brooks and Palmer went on to have solo success. .
Each of the four musicians who constitute Vinegar Socks represents a different cultural background and musical education yet, collectively, the group shares a singular desire to create music that is sincere and penetrating. In trying to maintain a continual sense of emotional immediacy they use their instruments to create rich musical textures (often difficult to categorize in terms of genre and style) so as to realize their vision of creating through music and words something that is relevant, urgent and moving.
