小室哲哉：キーボード・シンセサイザー・作詞・作曲・編曲・コーラス・プロデュースを担当。リーダー。 宇都宮隆：ボーカル。 木根尚登：ギター・キーボード・作詞・作曲・コーラス・ハーモニカ等を担当。 小室哲哉・宇都宮隆・木根尚登から成るジャパニーズポップス/ロックバンド。 宇都宮と木根は同級生であり、地元でSPEEDWAYというバンドのメンバーであった。その後、別の高校で注目を集めていた小室と宇都宮・木根でユニットを組む。 名称は「タイムマシンネットワーク」を表すとされるが、３人の出身地である「多摩」もダブルミーニングされている。これは多摩地区からTMに続くミュージシャンが出てほしいという願いも込めたものとされている。 結成後1983年「フレッシュサウンズコンテスト」で優勝、Epic/Sony Recordsと契約。しかしスターダムにのし上がるにはさらに10枚のシングルを待たなければならなかった。「Get Wild」でブレイク、その後1990年のリニューアル宣言でTMNに改称。1994年５月に一度活動を休止する。 しかし1999年の復活後は１～２年単位で活動と休止を繰り返している。 音楽性は一般的にシンセサイザーを多用したエレクトリックポップ。但し小室の嗜好に強く影響される。アルバムごとに異なる音楽性を持ち、ハードロックやハウス、トランス、プログレッシブロックなども披露されている。 .
