NYはヨンカース出身、2000年前後に超ハイテンションなラップでシーンを席巻したハードコアMC。 1991年に米ヒップホップ専門誌The Sourceの新人紹介コーナー"Unsigned Hype"に取り上げられると、そのままRuff Houseと契約。1992年にはデビューシングル"Born Loser"をリリースするも、まったくプロモーションされなかった為にセールスに繋がらず、Ruff Houseとの契約が終了。94年にもリリースを試みるも、トラブル続きで断念。が、'97年にDJクルー(DJ Crue)のミックステープにフィーチャーされると、Def Jamが契約をオファー。同年のL.L.クール・J(L.L. Cool J)のシングルで、彼とキャニバス(Canibus)とのビーフという話題のきっかけにもなった"4, 3, 2, 1"にゲストとして参加。その勢いで準備は整い、'98年にリリースされたシングル"Get at Me Dog"で大ブレイクを果たす。同年にリリースしたファーストアルバム"It's Dark and Hell Is Hot"は400万枚を売り上げる大ヒットアルバムとなった。 同年の暮れ近くにリリースした2ndアルバム"Flesh Of My Flesh, Blood Of My Blood"も翌年の3rdアルバム"...And Then There Was X"もマルチ・プラチナム・アルバムとなり、特に2000年にリリースしたシングル"Party Up"は特大のセールスを記録。"What's My Name?"等もヒットし、彼の名を不動のものにしたシングルとなった。一方で、'99年にはDMXが中心となり、ファーストアルバムからの盟友スウィズ・ビーツ(Swizz Beatz)、イヴ(Eve)らと共にラフ・ライダース(Ruff Ryders)を結成。時流に乗ったそのサウンドと、ハードコアな内容が人気を呼び、DMX名義の"Ruff Ryders' Anthem"や、ラフ・ライダース名義でジェイ・Z(Jay-Z)をゲストに迎えたシングル"Jigga My Nigga"の大ヒットと共に、"Ryde Or Die Compilation, Vol. 1"はシーンの一大話題作となる。 2000年にはそのラフ・ライダースの2ndアルバム"Ryde Or Die Compilation, Vol. 2"をリリース。同時期に映画"Romeo Must Die"に楽曲提供とスクリーン出演と言う形で絡み、俳優業もデビュー時の"Belly"以降から着実にこなしていく。翌年には4枚目のアルバム"The Great Depression"('01)をリリースし、"Who We Be"等のヒットを産み、その後にも"Cradle 2 The Grave"という映画に出演、サントラにも参加して絶好調振りをアピールするが、レーベルとの確執が生まれていった影響を語り｢次のアルバムで最後になる」という宣言を残す。そうしてリリースされた5枚目のアルバム"Grand Champ"('03)もプラチナム・アルバムに認定されるが、結局その後のアルバムリリース等が途絶えることに。 その後もシングル曲"Get It On The Floor"がクラブヒットさせ、彼の‘雄叫び’はダンスフロアの定番であり続けているが、交通違反や自動車窃盗、違法薬物の常用やペット虐待など様々な問題を起こし続け、2008年には服役。出所した2009年にはラフ・ライダーズ再結集の動きに呼応し、ラッパー業を続ける姿勢も見せている。 .

DMX Krew is the recording name of Ed Upton. He has released 6 full albums on Aphex Twin's label Rephlex Records, one full album on Legowelt's Strange Life Records, and numerous singles/EP's for both Rephlex, his own Breakin Records, and various other. DMX Krew's sound spans several electronic music genres but had mostly been rooted in early electro-pop/breakdance type music. The release of The Collapse of the Wave Function EPs are geared toward a different more experimental direction.
