JAMEY JASTA(Vo) SEAN MARTIN(G) CHRIS BEATTIE(B) MATT BYRNE(Dr) 1995年、ジェイミー・ジャスタとルー“ボウルダー”リチャーズ（g）が中心となってコネチカットで結成。３曲入りデモをジェイミー本人が設立した自主レーベル、Stillborn Recordsより発売しながら、ライヴをこなしていく。ちなみにHATEBREEDというバンド名は、MISFITSの'82年の楽曲「Hatebreeders」からつけられたという。 95年末に単独名義の初となる作品『アンダー・ザ・ナイフ（Under The Knife）』を発表、MACHINE HEAD、AFI、BIOHAZARDといったバンドとの共演が徐々に増えて行くにつれ、96年にはCD化されて発売。インディーズのVictory Labelと契約、'97年にはデビュー・アルバム『サティスファクション・イズ・ザ・デス・オヴ・デザイア（Satisfaction Is the Death of Desire）』を発表し、EARTH CRISIS、AGNOSTIC FRONT、SOULFLY、Motörheadら錚々たるメンツと共にツアーを回るようになり、その知名度、人気は時間をかけてさらに高くなっていく。その他Warped TourやTattoo The Earthツアーにも参加するなど丸２年をツアーに費やしたこともあり、このデビュー・アルバムはVictory Labelの数ある作品の中でも最高のセールスをたたき出している。 2001年、メジャーのUniversalと契約、その年のOZZFESTに出演し、会場を巨大なモッシュ・ピット化させたその強靭なライヴ・パフォーマンスで圧倒的な存在感を放つ。02年３月にメジャー・デビュー・アルバムであり彼らにとってセカンドとなる『パーシヴィランス（Perseverance）』を発表、このアルバムで日本でもデビューが決まり、同年の年末に行われたBeast Feast 2002、それに伴う単独公演を行っており、ここ日本でもその強靭なパフォーマンスを見せてくれ、観客を圧倒させた。 オリジナル・ギタリストであるルーがバンドを去り、４人編成となった彼らは、前作の制作スタッフのひとりであったゼウス（SWORN ENEMY、SHADOWS FALLなど）をプロデューサーに迎え、ニュー・アルバムの制作を開始。『ザ・ライズ・オヴ・ブルータリティ（The Rise Of Brutality）』を2003年にリリース。発売直前になってバンド及びマネージメントの意向によりアメリカ以外のテリトリーはRoadrunnerからリリースされることが決定した。 その後、ルーの死や度重なるメンバーチェンジ、更にはジェイミーが鬱病に悩まされるなど様々な障害があったものの、バンドは活動を続け、2006年には4thアルバム「Supremacy」を、2008年には5thアルバム「Hatebreed」とカヴァーアルバム「For The Lions」をリリースした。 .
