POLYSICS（ポリシックス）は、1997年に結成された日本のニューウェーブロックバンド。キューンレコードに所属している。 ディーヴォ・スピリッツの継承者 POLYSICSはインディーズ時代、メンバーをそれぞれPOLY-1、POLY-2、POLY-3、POLY-4というコードネームで呼んでいた。これはアメリカのニューウェーブバンドのディーヴォのBOB1号、BOB2号（メンバーにボブが二人いたため）を発展させたものである。POLYSICSに最も大きな影響を与えているのはディーヴォであり、バンドリーダーのハヤシがたびたび述べている通り、バンド活動の初期からPOLYSICSはディーヴォの精神の継承者として音楽を作ってきた。彼らのディーヴォへのリスペクトはPOLYSICSの楽曲や映像作品の随所に見ることができる。メンバー揃いのバイザーとつなぎも彼らの影響である。しかし、これらは年月を増すごとに少しずつデザインが変化し、一時期はジャケット姿やボーイスカウトを模した衣装等、異なる時期もあった。現在はカヨが脱退し3人体制になったのをきっかけに、グレーのつなぎに銀色のバイザーを着用している。 2003年8月のサマーソニックでは、ステージは違いながらもディーヴォと競演し、その際にディーヴォから「君たちはディーヴォの正統な後継者だ」とお墨付きをもらった、と後にハヤシが語っている。 サウンドの特徴 テクノ・ポップやニューウェーブを咀嚼し、独自のロックテイストをくわえたサウンドが特徴。結成当初は詩は全て英語、もしくは宇宙語（en:gibberish、解読不能な言葉）だったが、シングル『NEW WAVE JACKET』以降日本語でも歌うようになった。ライブでは、フロントマンであるハヤシがエネルギッシュなパフォーマンスを見せる一方で、カヨやヤノは無表情で楽器を演奏し、不思議な空間を作り出すという独特の演出で人気を博している。ただし、ヤノに関しては近年の楽曲ではシャウトを担当するなど、フロントマンに負けず劣らずのパフォーマンスを披露している。アメリカやイギリスなど世界を股にかけたライブ活動も精力的に行っており、世界中で熱狂的なファンを得ている。 POLYSICSにとってはディーヴォが最大の影響を受けた存在であると言えるが、それ以外の多くのバンドやミュージシャンからも様々な影響を受けていることが伺える。例を挙げると、P-MODEL、クラフトワーク、NEU!、ブライアン・イーノ、XTC、ニルヴァーナ、デヴィッド・ボウイ、キング・クリムゾン、ピンクフロイド、イエス、イエロー・マジック・オーケストラ、一風堂、ユニコーン、電気グルーヴ、筋肉少女帯といった面々である。 POLYSICSはまた スティクス、プラスチックス、ザ・ナック、シン・リジィ、スージー・クアトロ、ディーヴォ、ソフト・セル、フランク・シナトラ、ヒカシュー、ラモーンズ、P-MODELといったミュージシャンの楽曲のカヴァーも行っている。 バンド名の由来 バンド名は、リーダーのハヤシが生まれて初めて購入したシンセサイザー、コルグの「polysix」に由来する。この「polysix」は『Now is the time!』までは楽曲やライブで使用されていた。 .
