La primissima band psychobilly è considerata ufficialmente quella dei The Meteors, nati a Londra nel 1980 dalle ceneri dei Legendary Raw Deal: il chitarrista e cantante P Paul Fenech e il contrabbassista e cantante Nigel Lewis chiamarono con loro il batterista punk Mark Robertson.
