Considerati uno dei gruppi statunitensi più popolari ad emergere nel periodo immediatamente successivo al polverone sollevato dal Grunge e dall'Alternative Rock (per quanto riguarda i Weezer si parla già di Post grunge) - stili musicali divenuti molto popolari nei due anni precedenti - i Weezer hanno attirato in parti eguali grandi critiche e grandi lodi per il loro modo di fare musica dalla stampa specializzata.
