I Moonspell sono una band portoghese di Gothic metal. La band si forma nel 1989 sotto il nome di Morbid God grazie a Fernando Ribeiro (voce), João Pedro (basso), al tempo la band si orientava maggiormente su sonorità Black metal. Il gruppo registra demo ed EP fino al 1992 quando decidono di cambiare il nome del gruppo in Moonspell. Continuano a sperimentare, e nel 1993, registrano il demo Anno Satanae. Nel 1994, fanno la loro prima importante apparizione, aprendo il concerto dei Cradle of Filth a Lisbona. Poco prima, la band aveva inciso il suo primo mini-album (Under the Moonspell)....
